Mohammed Siraj replicates Suryakumar Yadav's celebration in IPL 2024

Mohammed Siraj had a decent outing with the ball in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at HPCA stadium in Dharamsala. Although Siraj was bit expensive but he ended up as the highest wicket-taker for RCB.

Siraj dismissed Ashutosh Sharma (8), Harshal Patel (0), and Arshdeep Singh (4) to complete his three-wicket haul, conceding 43 runs in his allotted four overs. His crucial dismissal of Arshdeep sealed the victory for RCB, who triumphed by a margin of 60 runs.

In a noteworthy moment, Siraj celebrated his performance by executing a rendition of the ‘calma’ celebration, reminiscent of Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav‘s iconic display during the IPL 2020 clash against RCB. It’s worth noting that the roots of this celebration trace back to April 2012, when football star Cristiano Ronaldo first showcased it during a match between Real Madrid and Barcelona.

RCB’s dominant batting display

RCB, after being put in to bat first, showcased a batting masterclass, posting a mammoth total of 241/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Former skipper Virat Kohli stole the show with a scintillating knock of 92 runs off just 47 deliveries, embellished with 7 boundaries and 6 towering sixes. Supporting Kohli were Rajat Patidar (55 off 23) and Cameron Green (46 off 27), who contributed vital runs to propel RCB to a formidable total. Despite Harshal Patel’s three-wicket haul for PBKS, RCB’s batting prowess remained unmatched.

Punjab Kings’ disappointing response

In response to RCB’s imposing total, Punjab Kings faltered, collapsing for 181 runs in 17 overs. Rilee Rossouw emerged as the lone warrior for PBKS, mustering 61 runs off 27 balls, comprising 9 boundaries and 3 sixes. However, PBKS’s batting lineup crumbled under the pressure, failing to provide substantial support to Rossouw. With this defeat, PBKS faced an early exit from the tournament, marking a disappointing end to their campaign.
