In the midst of an intense match between Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators during Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 at the National Stadium in Karachi, former Pakistan speedster Mohammad Amir became the focal point of a contentious incident.

‘Fixer’ chants trigger altercation

Upon his entrance onto the field as part of the Quetta Gladiators lineup, a segment of the crowd began chanting “fixer fixer,” alluding to his involvement in a spot-fixing scandal dating back to 2010. This sparked a heated verbal altercation between Amir and a spectator, prompting security personnel to intervene and defuse the escalating situation.

Responding to the provocative chants, Amir visibly lost his temper and countered with a sharp retort, questioning, “Ghar Se Yahi Seekh Ke Aate Ho?” (Is this what you’re taught at home?). A video capturing the exchange swiftly gained traction across various social media platforms, garnering widespread attention.

A career marked by ups and downs

Notably, upon Amir’s introduction to the cricketing arena, he was hailed as one of the premier fast-bowling sensations Pakistan had ever witnessed. The southpaw speedster showcased undeniable talent and swiftly climbed the ranks of cricketing excellence. However, an off-field controversy halted his career progression. In 2010, Amir faced arrest in connection with a spot-fixing scandal, resulting in a five-year ban for deliberately bowling two no-balls. Following a three-month incarceration, he staged a return to cricket in 2015 and subsequently represented the national team the ensuing year.

Having bid adieu to Test cricket in 2019 and retiring from other forms of international cricket in 2020, Amir remains active in franchise cricket leagues. In the PSL 2024, he has contributed with 6 wickets in 7 matches for Quetta Gladiators.
