Marquise Goodwin’s speed has been mostly useless this season

The Joe Flacco era with the Cleveland Browns has started to turn the page into hyperbole or hysteria at this point. Flacco has been much better than anyone expected despite the continuation of turnover issues from Browns quarterbacks this season.

That there is a Flacco tribute video with Taylor Swift playing behind it might be a little much at this point, however:

A different video did catch our eye this week, another Brian Baldinger breakdown. Baldy already gave us a look at DE Myles Garrett getting held and triple-teamed and a look at LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah making plays all over the field.

Baldy is back, this time taking a look at just one throw from Flacco to WR Marquise Goodwin:

As noted, not having many or any full-speed reps with a speedster like Goodwin can make the timing on this route difficult for any quarterback. Flacco just trusted his arm and receiver to be where he put the ball.

Goodwin’s experience allows him to run under the football and make the big play.

For Cleveland’s offense, Goodwin has been underutilized. A concussion kept him out several games but the free-agent addition has only been targeted 12 times in 10 games this year. Four catches for 67 yards is paltry especially when all but 10 of those yards came on the above throw.

If Flacco to Goodwin can connect on just one of those deep throws a game, the Browns offense will have a significantly different dimension to it. We will see if the two can hook up again in Week 16 versus the Houston Texans.

Do you think Goodwin can become an important part of the offense (even if it is just a play or two a game) for the last three games?
