Tom Brady’s access to teams, like the Browns, via Fox broadcast could be a major problem

Who many consider the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT), Tom Brady, could become a great broadcaster now that he has stepped away from playing quarterback at an all-time high level. While his getting roasted made people laugh, many are interested to see how Brady does while discussing the game live.

There is another layer to Brady’s post-playing career that could have longer staying power for the former multi-time Super Bowl champion.

The Las Vegas Raiders have been in the process of selling a percentage of the team to Brady. There have been snags related to the valuation of the team compared to what Brady would be paying but there is another that is more important for the Cleveland Browns and other teams that Brady will cover as a broadcaster this year.

Television crews have access to the teams in the game that they are covering days before the game. Interviews with players, coaches and front office staff, along with access to practice and facilities, helps the crew present the product on the field the best and share interesting stories with the viewing audience.

Brady will have that access with the Browns in Week 1 ahead of their matchup with the Dallas Cowboys. By that point, he could also be part owner of the Raiders which face off with Cleveland in Week 4.

It is an issue that Roger Goodell is aware of even as “progress” is being made toward approving Brady’s ownership deal:

Teams, including the Browns, can rightfully refuse access to media members for valid reasons but the NFL should not make individual teams make those decisions.
