Titleist’s much-vaunted Vokey design wedges are set for their latest update, two years after the last update.
The new Vokey SM10 wedges were spotted in the bags of a few professionals as the PGA Tour teed off with the Sentry at Kapalua.
If you’re looking for the lowdown on the SM10 wedges, you’re out of luck at the moment with Vokey and Titleist as tight-lipped as always when it comes to the launch of one of their flagship lines.
Any information on the clubs is currently the subject of a strict embargo, with anyone willing to divulge that information simply not in possession of it and those in the know decidedly mum on the subject.
What to expect from the Vokey’s SM10 wedges
We start here with a note regarding what we have just discussed and will declare that we don’t have the inside track on these clubs just yet – but we might expect comment from players in the coming days.
Considering the position Vokey wedges hold among PGA Tour players, it is unlikely that they will stray too far from a winning formula. We expect to see a refinement of certain features but no grand overhaul of the product.
With Vokey wedges making up over 50% of the wedges in play on the PGA Tour, it is hard to argue that they are not the market leaders or that their clubs don’t stand head and shoulders above the rest.
The range has been the dominant force in the wedge game since 2004 and seven of the world’s top ten players have at least one club from the range in their bag.
When it comes to the updated version we can expect them to stay true to a formula that is working and working very well at that. The order of the day will be minor tweaks and incremental improvements so we don’t expect to be talking about the SM 10’s as gamechangers.
That said, the minor improvements are likely to be more noticeable for the pros who will also get the first use of the clubs at Kapalua.
Images of the new clubs give little away with Vokey and Titleist going out of their way not to show the club face in any promotional images.
The great benefit of the arrival of the new SM 10 range on the PGA Tour is that the Vokey SM 9’s are now on sale for a reduced price.
