Ten months after his last official tournament, Tiger Woods makes his long-awaited return to the PGA Tour during the Genesis Invitational in Pacific Palisades, California. After retiring due to injury in the third round of The Masters last April, the event will be his first official tournament since the 2023 Genesis Invitational. Woods will be the center of attention as he takes to the field alongside 69 other players, including a group of ten of the best eleven in the world. The event, supported by his foundation, will take place at Riviera Country Club, where Woods made his amateur debut on the PGA Tour in 1992.

Of note, aside from the Hero World Challenge, Woods has not played 72 holes on the PGA Tour since the 2023 Genesis Invitational. He has also never won this competition, taking second place in 1998 and 1999. In 2021, while was in the Los Angeles area after attending the Genesis Invitational, Woods was involved in a serious car accident in Ranchos Palos Verdes, risking his life and career.
This represents a new beginning for Woods, with his first race wearing TaylorMade’s “Sun Day Red” brand after 27 years of collaboration with Nike. His new caddy will be Lance Bennett, who has worked extensively with Matt Kuchar and is currently engaged with Adrien Dumont de Chassart. In the first two rounds, Woods will play alongside Justin Thomas and Gary Woodland. Among the participants there will be numerous other big names, including the top ten players in the world rankings.
The Genesis Invitational will also be a challenge for the world throne, with Scottie Scheffler trying to defend it and Rory McIlroy trying to take it back. For Woods, the primary goal will be to make the cut, but his dream is to earn his 83rd career victory on the PGA Tour, an unprecedented achievement.
