Tiger Woods, TGL starts in January… indoor

on

The debut of the TGL, the hi-tech golf league spearheaded by TMRW Sports founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, is set for January 7, 2025. Following the physical collapse of the dome, construction of the 250,000-square-meter SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens is now proceeding smoothly. The project’s stages are being reshaped.

TGL, results

The venue of the TGL of Tiger Woods, built on the Palm Beach State College campus, boasts 1,500 indoor seats around a course nearly the size of an American football field. Six teams of four PGA Tour professionals (three starters and one substitute per match) will play 15 holes from a grass tee to send the ball onto large screens and virtual courses. Golf will become very real again when the ball reaches 40 meters from the hole, back on grass and to be completed as in any regular tournament.

Each player will be mic’d up. The TGL event will be broadcast live in prime time on ESPN and ESPN+, and the date is not chosen randomly. The platform will be airing the NFL playoffs’ first phase during that period. Thus, between touchdowns, dozens of TGL launch commercials will air. The other two stages are scheduled for the following two Tuesdays, January 14 and 21.

Each player will have 40 seconds to hit, otherwise a penalty will be imposed. One of the two referees hired by the TGL (one on the field and one in the control room) will enforce the penalty. Here are the rest of the rules.

The roster of the 24 players participating in the TGL is practically finalized: all are from the PGA, none from the LIV. Among them, in addition to the hosts, will be Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Shane Lowry, and Wyndham Clark. Quantifying their victories, there is a total of 223 wins on the PGA, 32 in Majors, and 886 weeks at the top of the world rankings.

The hi-tech league is funded by sports champions such as the Williams sisters, John Stones (City defender), Alex Albon (Formula 1), and Steph Curry.
