Tiger Woods, a name synonymous with golfing excellence, had previously clinched victory at Valhalla in 2000, following his 1999 triumph at the Medinah Country Club in Illinois. With four wins at the PGA Championship under his belt, the 15-time major champion is no stranger to this challenging tournament, having also secured the title in 2006 and 2007.

However, the last golfer to win the PGA Championship at Valhalla was Rory McIlroy in 2014. The upcoming tournament promises intense competition with the inclusion of 16 top players from LIV Golf, led by Brooks Koepka, the American golfer who will be defending his title after dominant performances in 2018 and 2019. The field also boasts 33 major champions, including Italy’s Francesco Molinari, ensuring a high-caliber lineup that will undoubtedly captivate golf fans around the world.

Eldrick Tont “Tiger” Woods, born on December 30, 1975, in Cypress, California, is widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time and a pivotal figure in modern sports. His influence extends beyond the golf course, making him one of the most recognizable athletes of the early 21st century.

Woods has claimed 15 major tournament victories, revolutionizing golf not only with his exceptional athletic performance but also by drawing a new audience to the sport. A golf prodigy from a young age, Tiger’s journey through junior and amateur ranks was nothing short of remarkable. He turned professional in the summer of 1996 and by 1997, he had won his first Masters. Less than a year after turning pro, he ascended to the number one position in the world rankings.

Dominating the sport throughout much of the 2000s, Woods faced significant challenges including knee and back injuries, which required him to adapt and reinvent his playing style. Despite these hurdles, his commercial appeal never waned. As the main face of Nike’s golf division, Woods secured multiple lucrative endorsements, making him one of the wealthiest athletes of the decade, although his career was not without its public scandals, particularly concerning his private life in 2009.

In a remarkable comeback, at the age of 43, Woods won his fifth Masters in April 2019—his 15th major title and his first major victory in eleven years. This win not only marked a significant personal and professional milestone but also reinforced his status as a golfing legend. On May 6, 2019, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by then-President Donald Trump, the highest civilian honor in the United States. In recognition of his contributions to the sport and his impact on society, Woods was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame on March 8, 2022.
