Present at a press conference after the elimination of Bayern Munich in the Champions League and before a trip to Mainz in the Bundesliga, Thomas Tuchel spoke of a hot issue in Bavaria: the position of number 9. While the upper echelons of Munich had pointed out the lack of a world-class striker, the Bavarian coach spoke about the Mathys Tel case. Without necessarily saying more about the future of the young 17-year-old striker.
“It’s not decided yet”declared the German coach before adding: “we see its quality. He has explosiveness and his ability to score goals is insane. […] He did it well several times as a substitute. This is now his role. For the rest, we will decide very late. For things like lending or keeping, I would say today: we will do it in August, not before”. This Thursday, Sky Sports indicated that Tel’s tendency was to stay and that he would have a bigger role than hitherto. To be continued…
