The Washington Commanders move on from Senior Director of Player Personnel Eric Stokes

The post-draft purge has begun

The Washington Commanders are entering the next phase of their transformation under the new ownership group lead by managing partner Josh Harris. The team was sold last July, but there wasn’t much time to make significant changes as training camp was starting. Ron Rivera had been the head coach and head of football operations under former owner Dan Snyder. Rivera brought in his guys, from the front office, to the football field, to the training staff(oops).

Eric Stokes was hired by Washington after Rivera took control. He was the Director of College Scouting in Carolina, working with Rivera from 2016-19. Stokes was hired as the Director of Pro Personnel by Rivera in 2020, and he was promoted to Senior Director of Player Personnel the following year. He oversaw the day-to-day operations of the personnel department.

John Keim confirmed the initial report from Nicki Jhabvala about Stokes not returning to the Washington Commanders front office. He also added something that should be obvious by now, Adam Peters is reshaping this franchise from top to bottom. There will likely be more firings/non-retains from the previous regime, and Peters will be bringing in more executives like his AGM Lance Newmark. The scouting department will also see some changes as the team moves on from decades of dysfunction.
