What are the Jets’ odds for success in 2024?

While moves can still happen, the end of draft season usually signifies the end of teams making big moves, as cap space has largely been spent on free agents and draft picks have been used. Accordingly, I thought now made sense as a pretty good time to evaluate what the outlook for the New York Jets 2024 season is. To best measure that, I will rely on DraftKings betting lines (with figures from approximately 4PM on May 8th, 2024).

Below you will see various betting lines for the Jets season. As a reminder, we can use betting lines to determine the implied probability of a given outcome using calculations provided by websites such as ActionNetwork.

  • To make the playoffs: -135 (implied probability of 57.45%)
  • To win the division: +200 (implied probability of 33.33%)
  • To win the AFC: +1100 (implied probability of 8.33%)
  • To win the Super Bowl: +2000 (implied probability of 4.76%)

Overall, I would call this a pretty favorable outlook. Not only do they think the Jets are more likely than not to make the playoffs at ~57%, but they give them a better likelihood of achieving other forms of success than the average team as well. Specifically, there are 4 teams in the AFC east, which means each team “should” have a 25% odds of winning the division, but the Jets are above that figure. Similarly, each of the 16 teams in the AFC “should” have a 6.25% chance of winning the AFC and each of the 32 teams in the NFL should have a 3.125% chance of winning the Super Bowl but the Jets are above those figures too.

Putting that together, DraftKings seems to think the Jets are going to be a rather formidable team. Now we as fans just have to hope they’re right.
