Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

NFL Draft 2024: Team Needs, Top Targets, Possible Picks and More – SI
Philadelphia Eagles. What you need to know: The position I’ve heard most consistently assigned to the Eagles is offensive tackle. It might seem a little strange, given the team’s needs on defense (and in the secondary in particular), but GM Howie Roseman’s always prioritized the lines and worked to get ahead of potential holes, so finding the eventual replacement for Lane Johnson—who’s entering his 12th year—is in play. With the group of tackles in this year’s class so highly regarded, though, it’s unclear whether the right one for Philly makes it to 22.

1. Laiatu Latu, UCLA, 6-4 3/4, 259. Summary: Laiatu Latu is an outstanding prospect who knows exactly how to rush the quarterback with elite hand quickness and athleticism. Everything he does is ridiculously fast and he looks so well-coordinated as an athlete.

2024 NFL Draft non-Eagles rooting guide – PhillyVoice
“It’s tracking towards Jayden Daniels [to be the Commanders’ pick], which is has been. The signs point to Jayden Daniels, which they do, and the Commanders are going through it after this week when, I think it’s a situation where from the outset, Jayden Daniels has had an interest in being other places. He just has.” Yikes. From a pure football standpoint, Daniels has more upside than guys like North Carolina’s Drake Maye or Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, and fans of the Eagles, Giants, and Cowboys should prefer that the high upside guy not land in Washington. However, if the guy doesn’t want to be there and the Commanders say, “Don’t care, we’re taking you anyway,” I think that has some potential for combustible hilarity for a franchise already very used to embarrassment. If indeed Daniels doesn’t want to be there, I think Eagles fans should root for the Commanders to take him.

5. Philadelphia Eagles. Biggest loss (PFF WAR): LB Haason Reddick (0.18 WAR). Biggest gain (PFF WAR): QB Kenny Pickett (1.12 WAR). The Eagles coverage unit was their weak link, as they ranked 24th in team coverage grade last season. They signed cornerbacks Tyler Hall and defensive end Bryce Huff to get a head start on bolstering the defense. The Eagles’ most intriguing signing was running back Saquon Barkley, whom they poached from the division-rival Giants. Jalen Hurts and Barkley will be a dynamic duo in the zone-read game, and Barkley can be a pass-catching weapon.

18. Eagles [projected trade with Bengals]: J.C. Latham, OT, Alabama. You didn’t really think Howie was going to stay at 22, did you? No way. There are a lot of interesting options for the Eagles, but my guess is that staying at 22 is least likely, after trading up and trading down. I’ll go 20 percent staying at 22, 25 percent trading down and 55 percent trading up. Having two 2nd-round picks gives the Eagles a ton of flexibility, and being able to move up and snag a future franchise offensive tackle like Latham would be huge. The Eagles appear set at tackle with Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson, but Howie Roseman doesn’t think like that. Johnson is still playing at an elite level, but he turns 34 in a few weeks, and is heading into his 12th season, and there has to be a succession plan in place. Plus, the beauty of drafting Latham is that he can compete at right guard from the jump or back up everywhere on the line except center until Johnson decides to hang ‘em up. At 6-foot-6, 340 pounds, Latham is built like a guard, but he’s got the footwork, power and athleticism to play tackle at a very high level in the NFL. Roseman has made 13 1st-round picks as GM and 10 of them have been offensive or defensive linemen, and especially after hearing Roseman talk last week about the importance of offensive line depth – “It’s not about the five (starters), it’s about having depth up front” – there’s no reason to think anything will change this year. There are whispers Latham is rising up teams’ draft boards, and maybe he won’t be available within range of a reasonable Eagles trade-up. But adding an elite talent like Latham gives them the opportunity to continue fielding a top offensive line in a post-Jason Kelce world

2 – Pick 53 – CB Max Melton – Rutgers – 5-11, 187. I wrote a couple of days ago about how the Eagles are looking for a CB, preferably someone who can play outside and in the slot. Melton only played 68 snaps on the inside in college, but has the build and skill set to move there full time if needed. Melton has the speed to play outside (4.39), but watch him in the slot and he’s comfortable being physical and playing in traffic. He picked off 8 passes in his career so he’s got playmaking ability. Max is one of my favorite prospects in the draft. I’d love to see him in Philly. At its best, the Eagles secondary has some dawg it in. Last year there was no dawg. Or dog. More like a wounded puppy. One of the things to love about Melton is that he’s so tough and competitive. He plays hard. I think his skill, versatility and playing style would be a welcome addition to the back end of the defense. He did visit the Eagles, but is considered a local prospect so we can’t read too much into that. I think they would be nuts not to have interest.

27 thoughts about the Eagles’ draft, from trade possibilities to Jeremiah Trotter Jr. – PHLY
1. The position I think the Eagles are most likely to take in the first round is offensive tackle, but the player I think they’d most likely take in the first round is Cooper DeJean. That’s because there’s a wider selection of offensive linemen (and it would likely require a trade-up), whereas DeJean would be a sensible stick-and-pick option.

Jason Kelce receives wooden replica of Eagles stadium from wife Kylie – ESPN
Jason Kelce received a special retirement gift from his wife Kylie — a wooden replica of Lincoln Financial Field, the Philadelphia Eagles’ stadium. The design includes Jason’s accolades and jersey number on the bottom with the field featured in the center. It is also placed on a wooden frame that can hang on a wall.

At long last the Dallas Cowboys have to show their cards this offseason – Blogging The Boys
But that all changes this week. The Cowboys are going to be forced to do the something that they have opted against for the last month and a half. Be active. Either turn in their draft cards or forfeit their picks, and while the temperature of the moment makes the latter feel not entirely impossible, we are going to be able to finally draw a legitimate conclusion about this team soon enough. It is assumed by just about everyone that Dallas will address the offensive line in the first round, and if they do that will serve as step one in the direction of understanding. We will then (assuming this hypothetical) be able to understand just how exactly they are building their new-look trenches. If they take a tackle then we can start to consider pen when writing Tyler Smith’s name down at left guard, or if they take a center then T.J. Bass might wind up playing a legitimate amount of time in 2024. Again, the point is answers are about to be found one way or another. Generally we do not have to wait this long to get a proper grip on our favorite team, but better late than never. The pencils are about to be commanded down and we are going to get a chance to look at what they have been scribbling on their exam for all of this time.

NFL Draft rumors: Is Drake Maye Plan A for the New York Giants? – Big Blue View
It seems more and more analysts believe the Giants won’t have enough draft capital to keep the Minnesota Vikings from jumping them for a quarterback.

NFL Draft 2024: Washington Commanders Final Mock Draft – Hogs Haven
Drake Maye, North Carolina. Quarterback | 6’4 3/8”, 223 lbs. Drake Maye was the pick last month from yours truly and he is still the choice today. It’s nearly a match race with LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels and the dark-horse selection of J.J. McCarthy. What separates Maye from the other two is his potential ceiling. Washington’s current coaching staff matches well with all three quarterbacks, but Maye has established a better rapport with the coaching staff and front office in recent months. General Manager Adam Peters values meeting times with prospects and the two quarterbacks that the team has met with the most are Maye and McCarthy. It is the educated estimation that Maye will be the choice.

My favorite 2024 NFL Draft prospects at every position on the field – SB Nation
Linebackers: Jaylan Ford, Texas. In a linebacker class that isn’t super spectacular, Ford’s name has still managed to go under the radar. As one of the few backers in this class with good coverage skills and traits, Ford can play either LB spot and succeed in the NFL if he’s kept clean. He’s still figuring out how to take on blocks (playing behind T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy will do that), but Ford has the chops in coverage and in space to survive in todays NFL.
