The clubs that helped Peter Malnati end his title drought at the Valspar Championship

Peter Malnati ended a long PGA Tour title drought with a dramatic victory at the Valspar Championship.

Malnati sunk four birdies on the final nine of his round on Sunday to shoot 4-under 67 and win by two at Innisbrook’s challenging Copperhead Course.

Even his caddie was amazed by the performance from the American veteran.

“His ball-striking was amazing today,” said Chad Antus, who has been on Malnati’s bag for seven years.

“He kept his cool, kept his rhythm all day, putted really good. He played awesome on that back nine.

“That birdie at 17 was huge, considering where we were standing in the tournament. It gave us a little cushion.”

Looking for control off the tee, Malnati uses the Titleist TSR3 driver with 10 degrees of loft.

For his 3-wood he turns to the distance of the Titleist TSi3 (15 degrees).

He also deploys a hybrid to bridge the distance gap to his irons, going with the Titleist 818 H2 for this purpose.

His iron range is made up of three distinct clubs as he uses a Titleist T200 4-iron, a Titleist T150 5-iron and his 6-9 set are from the Titleist T100 range.

His four wedges are all Titleist Vokey Design SM9s, which have been customised to his preferences.

His putter is the Scotty Cameron TourType Special Select Masterful Tour Prototype.

We couldn’t dive into his bag without talking about his Titleist Pro V1x balls which are all supplied in yellow. Thank you Peter for breaking down the stigma around yellow balls.

“I feel like this win, this win is, you know, first and foremost, it is, it’s for me,” Malnati said.

“It’s for my family, it’s for my caddie, it’s for my team of people who support me. But on a larger scale it’s also for Tampa, it’s for the Copperheads, it’s for Valspar, and it’s for all the events on the PGA TOUR who find themselves in this new ecosystem kind of wondering where they fit and if they matter …

“There are thousands of Peter Malnatis out there who are 10 years old right now, teenagers right now, who dream of playing golf on the PGA TOUR, and they want to have the moment that I just got to have. If we don’t have communities that believe in what the PGA TOUR does, and sponsors who support what the PGA TOUR does, we don’t have those moments.”
