on

In a quest to foster stronger relationships with manufacturers and drive sustainable practices within the table tennis equipment industry, ITTF President Petra Sörling, accompanied by key members of the ITTF, recently concluded her transformative journey in China, following successful trips to Japan and Germany. Facilitated by the China Table Tennis Association (CTTA) and accompanied by CTTA Secretary General He Xiao, ITTF President Petra Sörling and Karine Teow, ITTF Head of Sustainability, embarked on a full day visit to Double Happiness (DHS).

Led by DHS General Manager Mr. Lou Shihe, the visit encompassed a comprehensive tour of DHS headquarters and one of their innovative manufacturing bases located in the Suzhou area. From witnessing the intricate processes of rubber and blade production to exploring DHS’s scientific research centre, ITTF’s representatives gained invaluable insights into the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, a commitment fostered by governmental authorities.

At DHS, ITTF witnessed the strides made in sustainability integration, buoyed by governmental support, and underscored by three ISO certifications. Notably, sustainability has become a cornerstone of DHS’s decision-making framework, evident in their emphasis on research and development in sourcing from more sustainable materials.

The tour continued with a trip to Double Fish’s factory, where ITTF representatives were welcomed by Double Fish Chairman Mr. Wang Xiaodong. Amidst a backdrop of technologically efficient production processes, Double Fish showcased its dedication to a sustainable future through substantial investments in technology and responsible manufacturing practices. Noteworthy initiatives such as solar panels and waste reduction strategies specifically on wood used in the production underscored Double Fish’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

“Visiting China has been truly enlightening—a journey akin to visiting another integral part of our global family. From Japan to Germany and now China, witnessing the industry’s commitment to sustainability has been inspiring. I’m impressed by the rapid adaptations to meet regulatory standards and the proactive steps taken by our equipment manufacturers and brands. Their dedication ensures a bright future for our beloved sport. Together, with sustainability at the forefront, we will continue to make strides, always with the future of table tennis in mind.” – Petra Sörling – ITTF President

Karine Teow, echoing President Sörling’s sentiments, said, “Seeing two vastly different approaches to sustainability within China’s diverse table tennis industry, each catering to unique markets, is truly promising. I’m encouraged by the industry’s response and their openness in welcoming us to learn, discuss, and grow together. I’m committed to supporting the industry, now equipped with the FIT (International Federation Table Tennis Manufacturers) Sustainability Working Group, and to collaborating with industry leaders to set standards, promote awareness, and educate the table tennis community and beyond about the efforts underway to bring more sustainable equipment to the forefront. While the journey ahead may be long, I believe we’re on the brink of making significant strides.”
