Stefanos Tsitsipas says he is happy for the success of Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev as he thinks he is also benefiting from them doing good.
At the Indian Wells Masters, Alcaraz won the title and reclaimed the world No 1 spot with his win.
On the other side, Medvedev – who was beaten by Alcaraz in the Indian Wells final – previously won three consecutive titles in Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai.
“I’m happy for them. I believe in the message of ubuntu, by having others be good, [to] sort of witness greatness of others around me, I am also allowing myself to become better too. I believe in that message and I think the fact that they’re doing well is benefitting me too and it’s giving me a clear, better view of how I should approach my game,” Tsitsipas said, per the ATP website.
Tsitsipas prays for good health
Since the Australian Open, Tsitsipas has been bothered by a shoulder injury.
After withdrawing from Acapulco, Tsitsipas made the call to compete at the Indian Wells Masters.
In Indian Wells, Tsitsipas was evidently far from his best.
After a first-round bye, Tsitsipas suffered a surprise loss to Jordan Thompson in the Indian Wells second round.
Now, Tsitsipas is set to compete at the Miami Masters.
“My health is the most important thing that I could have in tennis. When I’m feeling healthy, everything falls into place nicely. I’m enjoying myself on the court, I’m getting creative, I can mix up my game and I feel like nothing can go wrong. This is what my aim is for this tournament, to just play pain-free and see how my arm responds on these next few days,” Tsitsipas said.
In Miami, Tsitsipas is the second-seeded player and has a first-round bye.
In his Miami opener, Tsitsipas will play either Richard Gasquet or Christopher O’Connell.
It remains to be seen if Tsitsipas can bounce back in Miami and do much better than in Indian Wells.
