SSG Beats OpTic Gaming to Win HCS Arlington Major

This weekend, a dramatic Halo series unfolded that culminated in an electrifying grand showdown between OpTic Gaming and Spacestation. In Arlington, Texas, an all-important Halo Major unfolded, with $250,000 on the line – as well as qualification to the upcoming London Major. From an unpredictable championship bracket to records being broken, the Arlington Major was a stunner from start to finish, leaving fans satisfied and insanely excited for the next Major.

When the dust had settled, Spacestation stood victorious over an otherwise dominant OpTic Gaming. It seems as though SSG was OpTic’s weak spot in this tournament, with SSG collecting two big, back-to-back wins against the guys in green as the tournament closed out. For a moment, it looked as though OpTic would reverse sweep SSG in the grand final, but a tied round of CTF and a follow-up win from SSG in a round of Team Slayer put OpTic’s resurgence to bed.

A Monumental Major

One of the shining stars of the Arlington Major was Team Foe, an organisation that was otherwise unheard of before the Major kicked off. Following a strong showing in the group stage, Foe went on to punish Cloud9 and Proton in the championship bracket before Shopify Rebellion eliminated the fledgling organisation from the running. There was a lot of buzz around Team Foe for one reason – WuTum.

In his first-ever Halo Major – which came up mere months after he stopped competing in Splitgate – WuTum secured a T6 finish while wielding a keyboard and mouse setup. In a game dominated by controller players, WuTum stood out above the crowd. This young Finnish competitor was gassed up by Spacestation on socials, and now he’ll be heading to the London Major to compete alongside the greatest Halo teams once again.

To London

There’s a lot of excitement shaping up for the London Major. It’s the first major tournament of its type to be held in the UK since Halo Infinite was released – and long before then, too. It’s going to be a stunning event that will see the top-most teams in the HCS face off once again. At the top of the table in terms of expectations sits Spacestation, OpTic, FaZe, and Rebellion. There’s every opportunity for an underdog side to see victory, of course.

This upcoming event is backed by Quadrant, the organisation led by Formula One’s Lando Norris. During the Arlington Major, Quadrant crashed out of the championship bracket following a loss against Complexity, but there are hopes that the team will get solid traction on home turf.

The action kicks off on May 31 in London.
