LA took the third edge rusher off the board in Jared Verse
After rampant speculation whether the Los Angeles Rams would trade up for an offensive weapon or move down after defensive talent fell down the board, the Rams remained at pick 19 and selected Florida State OLB Jared Verse. Verse becomes LA’s only first round draft choice since the team took Jared Goff first overall in 2016.
The Rams came away with the third edge rusher in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Indianapolis Colts took UCLA’s Laiatu Latu at #15 to make him the first defensive player off the board. Alabama’s Dallas Turner went to the Minnesota Vikings—their second selection of the first round after landing JJ McCarthy at #10—at pick 17. The Seattle Seahawks selected the top defensive tackle in Byron Murphy at #16.
How did social media users react to Les Snead’s first choice in 2024? Let’s take a look at instant reactions across X, formerly known as Twitter.
High praise from some of the best to ever do what they do:
“Jared Verse is powerful and explosive..
There’s so much to like about this guy”

Rams couldn’t pass up opportunity to land Verse:
Rams had a few guys they were taking if they were there. Verse was one of them. That’s the pick. That’s the tweet!
I guaranteed they’d pick offense if they kept the pick. I lose my Rams card.

Initial reactions seem positive across the board:
19. Los Angeles Rams – Jared Verse, EDGE, Florida State
Grade: A-
Verse is such a powerful, powerful player who can be an instant floor raiser for a Rams defense that needs all the help they can get defensively.https://t.co/XEunJi0mki pic.twitter.com/AQSYGG15zt

Love the pick. Jared Verse can play. I’m Rob Quinn giddy again

Verse is a power edge who can anchor and win with power.
Pocket-pushing strength, but he has a high motor and can take over games if he solves his opposing blocking assignment.
The active hand-fighting skill is what has always stood out the most.
Not much of a space defender.

The Rams take Jared Verse out of Florida State!
Great value. Would not have expected him to last until 19. Led a GREAT Seminoles defense this past year.
Love this pick!

Not overly sexy, but it’s hard to dislike the pick.
Dude with a tude on defense, yes please.

Jared Verse is my EDGE3.
Violent hands and a great rip off the edge. Closes super quickly and can punish QBs/RBs. Consistent every play with a big motor.
Overpursues at times. Can get taken out by long OTs.#Rams defense gets better. #HallamAnalysis

So freaking excited with this pick.

Can’t be mad with Jared Verse. I will say, I’m surprised they stayed put and took an EDGE though, gotta think the move up for Bowers just fell through for whatever reason.
— Sosa Kremenjas (@QBsMVP) April 26, 2024
Byron Young and Jared Verse should be able to complement each other really well. Got more of a speed guy with Young and Verse adds some more strength on the other side.
Add Turner in the middle?
Defensive pass rush has a vision.

The Rams filled their biggest roster hole without trading up or reaching for a guy.
I LOVE the pick of Jared Verse. Thought he’d have gone earlier.

A more pessimistic view:
Don’t think I’ve ever seen a HC look as pissed as McVay after Rams pick

#19 Rams
Jared Verse brings it on every play. See him as a 7-9 sack per year guy but also sound in run game. Bunch of young guys in that front 7 as the post-Donald era begins— Chris Simms (@CSimmsQB) April 26, 2024
#Rams getting Jared Verse in this spot is nice value – heavy hands, converts speed to power, can set the edge
High floor prospect
