Shane Lowry reacts to Jon Rahm joining LIV Golf: I wasn’t surprised

on

Jon Rahm’s departure shocked the golf scene. One of those who reacted to the Spaniard’s departure is Shane Lowry. Shane is not surprised by Rahm’s decision, given that the situation on the golf scene is currently such that nothing can be surprising. Jon Rahm had been thinking about his decision for a long time and accepted the offer of 500 million dollars. Many are worried about the future of the PGA Tour and golf in general. Such departures certainly cause even greater divisions and fears.

“There’s no smoke without fire so we all thought he must be going,” Lowry said, as quoted by golfmonthly.com!

“[I wasn’t] surprised, as I am not surprised by anything at the minute. It is what it is now, it’s just mad to think we won’t be playing against Jon Rahm until the Masters. He won’t be rocking up to Riviera, Bay Hill, the Players, all the big tournaments on the PGA Tour.

It’s just mad to think that. It is what it is. I am just hopeful it all irons itself out soon, and we will be back playing together again soon. I don’t know when that will be, but hopefully soon.”

Shane Lowry on the future of golf

The fact is that the PGA Tour and LIV Golf generally do not have the best golfers. They are divided into two sides. In such conditions, it is difficult to expect the progress of golf and to expect great matches and atmosphere. This is precisely why many are hoping for a merger between the PGA Tour and PIF. Lowry hopes that the situation could be resolved and that the best could play in joint tournaments.

“I mean, I’m not involved in anything. I just try to worry about my own thing and get on with my own game. But I’d be very hopeful that at some stage in the near future we will be back playing the same tournaments together and I think that’s what the world of golf needs.”

Jon Rahm, according to the current rules, will not have the opportunity to play in the Ryder Cup. Lowry believes that Rahm would certainly be one of the more important players of their team.

“I don’t know what should happen or what could happen. The one thing I do know is that I want to be on a winning Ryder Cup team in Bethpage and if we do need Jon Rahm to do that, we probably should have him, but who knows what’s going to happen, who knows what the DP World Tour will do.”
