Shane Lowry on Bob MacIntyre PGA Tour struggles: I see a lot of myself in Bob

on

Shane Lowry is someone who has already gained experience on the PGA Tour and is familiar with how things work there. In a media interview, the Irishman spoke about Bob MacIntyre and his start on the PGA Tour. Although the Scot’s beginning hasn’t been promising, Lowry believes that Bob must be patient in these moments, considering that this is only his first season, and there is plenty of room for improvement. Lowry emphasized that he often communicates with the Scot.

“I see him all the time and I saw him and Shannon (MacIntyre’s girlfriend) at Sawgrass,” said Lowry, as quoted by The Scotsman!

Lowry, just like MacIntyre, didn’t particularly shine right away upon arriving on the PGA Tour. He knew it would take some time to progress. These are the moments that require you to be patient and give your best.

“Look, Bob’s probably not played the golf he wanted, but it’s not easy over here. I found that when I came over in my first couple of years, but you’ve just got to stick with it and work your socks off.”- he continued.

Lowry, as we’ve already mentioned, had difficulties during his first season. Playing on the PGA Tour means facing renowned names in the golf scene. In moments when you find yourself on the course with names like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and others, you’re aware that a tough task awaits you. However, over time, you have the chance to progress, understand your strengths and weaknesses, adapt, and become the best version of yourself.

Lowry stressed that Bob is on a similar path as he was. The fact that he played in the Ryder Cup is crucial for him, given that he gained immense experience and played with great names. Believing in yourself, the Irishman emphasizes, is crucial. That’s the first step to success.

“Bob needs to be very patient with his career. I see a lot of myself in Bob, to be honest, when I was his age and at the stage of his career. He needs to keep doing what he’s doing as he’s doing all the right things. He’s already played the Ryder Cup and already done a lot in the game. He just needs to maybe believe himself and will kick on from there.”- he continued.

Shane Lowry and Masters

Feeling positive about his performance, Lowry discussed the upcoming season’s opening major at Augusta National, emphasizing the unpredictability of the game within the three-week timeframe. Lowry reflected on his career, acknowledging that each week brings something new, and it’s too early to draw conclusions before such an important competition.

He felt happy because he earned lots of FedEx Cup points recently, which took some stress off because he wasn’t in the big events before. Lowry wants to be in the top 30, so he can play in all the other events, and that would make him really happy.

Before the Masters, many golfers set huge expectations for themselves, knowing how important this competition is. Succeeding at the Masters is what every golfer dreams of since day one of their career.

For Lowry, it’s crucial that he feels happy about his game. He highlighted that he’s been driving the ball equally well for a long time. He’s also satisfied with his iron play, although Saturday wasn’t an ideal day for him in that regard. The Irishman points out that his chipping feels good. These are all optimistic signs for him, and he believes he’s ready to make a good result in a few weeks.

Lowry explains that he feels more confident about his form compared to last year at this time. He mentions feeling positive about his game and mentions his upcoming schedule, including a tournament in Singapore on the DP World Tour followed by some time off to prepare for the Masters. He expresses excitement about the upcoming events.

For him, the most important thing is to jump over the stairs before the Masters, so only then can he focus on the biggest challenge.

This year’s Masters will begin in the first week of April and will take place at the Augusta National Golf Club. With a rich history dating back to its inception in 1934, this tournament holds huge importance as one of the four major championships in men’s golf. Last year’s champion was Jon Rahm, and this year, the Spaniard aims to repeat his success. While Lowry may not be considered one of the top contenders for victory, such a role could provide him with additional motivation to perform at his best and surprise golf fans everywhere.
