The new PGA Tour Players’ Council for 2023 was announced by the North American Tour’s governing body on Monday. Its members will continue, through their wise and informed advice, to help the PGA Tour reinvent itself in the face of the persistent threat from the dissident LIV Golf circuit.
The process is a bit complicated, hence the interest of giving some explanations.

Above the PAC (Player Advisory Council), which can be translated as Players’ Council and which has a purely advisory role, there are several Directors (administrators) who generally serve a three-year term and participate more actively in the development of the PGA Tour strategy, after listening to the other members.
They mainly discuss with Jay Monahan, the general “Commissioner” of the PGA Tour and in 2022 they spent a lot of time with him, in meetings, notably deciding together to boost the endowments of 12 Elevated Events, by popular demand…
This year, there will still be as Directors the current world number 1, Rory McIlroy (2022-2024), and Charly Hoffmann (2021-2023), but James Hahn and Kevin Kisner (term ended in 2022) give up their places.
They are replaced by three players, Peter Malnati (2023-25), Webb Simpson (2023-25) and Patrick Cantlay, who agreed to get involved too, but for only one year (2023), after having thought long and hard about the possibility of joining the Saudi League.
In addition, an election is underway, until February 13, for which three members have been chosen by the current Directors: Maverick McNealy, who was already at the PAC last year, and two new members. Adam Scott, ex-world number 1 and winner of the 2013 Masters, and Kevin Streelman. The winner of this election will replace Charly Hoffmann as Director on January 1, 2024.
Finally, as part of the renewal of the Council provided for by the rules of the PGA Tour, they are eleven players to leave the ship: Paul Casey, Austin Cook, Joel Dahmen, Harry Higgs, Billy Horschel, Russell Knox, Brooks Koepka, Justin Lower, Graeme McDowell, Trey Mullinax and Jon Rahm, superb winner of the last Tournament of Champions, at the beginning of January in Hawaii.
Three of them, Koepka, McDowell and Casey, have nothing more to do in this Council since they deserted in 2022 to participate in the Saudi League.
Will Zalatoris also retains his place. He is joined by Ryan Armour, Sam Burns, Corey Conners, Rickie Fowler, Brice Garnett, Brian Harman, Max Homa, Mackenzie Hughes, Shane Lowry, Keith Mitchell, Henrik Norlander, Scottie Scheffler, in addition to Scott and Streelman, candidates like McNealy to become Director on January 1, 2024.
There will only be one chosen one, but still a lot of work for everyone….
