Scheffler loses one of the best streaks in history

There’s no doubt that Shane Lowry is a charismatic guy, and if he signs for a 62, even the American crowd gets behind him. The Irishman flirted with history in the third round of the PGA Championship, matching the record for the lowest round in a major. Interestingly, Schauffele had achieved this feat for the second time in his career on Thursday, and Valhalla once again became a birdie-friendly venue, allowing Lowry to get into contention and have a shot at claiming his second major. However, Schauffele remains very solid, and Morikawa, despite his youth, is also another serious contender.

Lowry’s putter obeyed him, as he managed to make 161 feet (49 meters) worth of putts on Saturday, more than ever before in his career. However, Shane was somewhat disappointed for not taking advantage of both the 10th and 18th holes, the two par 5s on the back nine. In the same pairing as Lowry, Rose carded a 64. “We encouraged each other,” noted the Irishman.

Theegala, DeChambeau, and Hovland also remain in the mix at the top of the leaderboard. Scheffler lost ground, and McIlroy will also find it very tough to win. Koepka was ruled out. The world number one signed for a 73 (+2), thus ending an incredible streak of 42 consecutive rounds at par or better on the PGA Tour.
