Scheffler is the clear favourite for the Masters

on

They say that true character reveals itself in how one responds to unexpected challenges, and Scottie Scheffler’s recent journey exemplifies this wisdom.

Not too long ago, Scheffler found himself struggling on the greens, a surprising turn for someone who held the top spot in the world rankings. Last season, his performance in Strokes Gained Putting, a metric assessing putting efficiency, was a disappointing 162nd. Yet, the Texan remained unfazed. Instead, he sought to address his putting game head-on, enlisting the expertise of renowned putting coach Phil Kenyon.

Masters, results

Since then, much has changed. Scheffler’s putts have found their mark with remarkable consistency, propelling him to victories at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship in recent weeks. Delving deeper into his statistics reveals an even more impressive feat: in the 27 rounds he’s played since January 1st, Scheffler has finished every single one under par, a feat unmatched by any other player this season.

Furthermore, Scheffler’s clutch putting performances have been nothing short of astounding. In crucial moments during his victorious outings at Bay Hill and Sawgrass, he sunk an incredible 17 out of 17 putts from three meters or more. Adding to his accolades, Scheffler has participated in seven tournaments in 2024, winning two and never finishing outside the top 10 in the rest, with the exception of the American Express where he placed 17th despite a score of -21.

In addition to reclaiming his throne atop the World Ranking, Scheffler currently leads in multiple key statistical categories, including Strokes Gained Total, Tee to Green, Off the Tee, and Approach. Remarkably, he has surged from 162nd in putting at the beginning of the year to 89th presently.

With less than twenty days remaining until the Masters at Augusta, it’s clear that Scheffler has emerged as the undeniable favorite, eclipsing even the likes of Rory McIlroy. As the golfing world anticipates the upcoming tournament, all eyes will undoubtedly be on Scheffler as he continues his extraordinary ascent in the sport.
