Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that — rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it’s just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- According to this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is talking about possibly scheduling next year’s WrestleMania 41 cards on May 4 and May 5 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
- Someone in AEW reached out to The Observer and said CM Punk “definitely” demanded that Colt Cabana get fired when they both worked there. However, the fact that Tony Khan covered it up by denying Punk’s guilt makes it “unsafe” for anyone to tell the truth about what happened.
- This person also claims that Punk made “verifiably untrue statements” in his bombshell interview with ESPN prior to the launch of AEW Collision last June. These false statements were edited out of the interview before it was published. “The company made sure his transparent lies didn’t get published because it would have also proven their public statements about the issue to be untrue.”
- Even though the NFL Network quickly wrapped up Tony Khan’s interview after he referred to WWE as “the Harvey Weinstein of pro wrestling,” Fightful Select indicates the network was “happy” with his appearance. They knew his interview would get attention after he wore a neck brace at the NFL Draft.
- Fightful also mentions that as of Friday morning, several people in WWE did not know what brand they were going to be assigned to during the WWE Draft. In addition to that, several people in NXT were worried about their roster being “picked dry” in the draft. Others were concerned about being called up to the main roster without a creative plan in place.
- F4WOnline’s Dave Meltzer heard that The Rock’s profanity-laden promos during the build to WrestleMania 40 and Paul Heyman’s controversial Hall of Fame speech are “considered the official end of the PG era.” That doesn’t necessarily mean “the TV shows will be changing,” but it does mean “the attempts to keep things PG in the big picture” are now “no longer the case.”
- Per Meltzer, Dax Harwood suffered a concussion in the FTR vs. Young Bucks ladder match at the AEW Dynasty pay-per-view. For what it’s worth, Dax said on Friday that he’s “feeling much better today.”
