Roger Federer’s Terrible Footwork? Mardy Fish Teases Tennis Legend

on

Roger Federer shared a video with his fans, hitting against the wall and displaying his famous footwork and forehand. As usual, Roger’s old rival Mardy Fish was “not impressed.” The American called Federer’s footwork terrible and named him an old man clueless about the game of tennis! Of course, Mardy joked with his good friend as many times before, always liking seeing footage of the Swiss maestro. Roger has not played an official singles match for almost three years, struggling with a knee injury since the beginning of 2020 and ending his career at the 2022 Laver Cup. A 20-time Major winner sometimes likes to hit the court, playing with his wife and kids. Roger finished the 2019 season ranked 3rd behind his closest rivals, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

Despite turning 38 in August, Federer played at a high level that year and conquered his last Masters 1000 crown in Miami over John Isner. The Swiss could have embraced much higher honor, earning two match points in the epic Wimbledon final against Djokovic before falling in the deciding tie break at 12-12. Roger made a strong start to the 2020 season, reaching the Australian Open semi-final. He lost to Djokovic in straight sets and announced knee surgery a couple of weeks later. The Swiss maestro underwent another in May, ending his season and hoping for a fresh start in 2021. Working hard on his comeback despite setbacks, the veteran stepped on the court again in March 2021 in Doha, playing two encounters and taking another break until May.

Mardy Fish joked with Roger Federer, calling him an old man clueless about tennis.

Federer suffered an early loss at home in Geneva on clay and headed to Roland Garros with no form or matches in his legs. The 2009 champion found the rhythm and scored three victories to advance into the last 16. Happy with the progress, Federer withdrew ahead of the Matteo Berrettini clash, preserving his knee for the beloved grass season. Roger experienced his earliest Halle exit after falling to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round, feeling pain and hoping for a miracle at Wimbledon. An eight-time champion was aware of his slim chances at The All England Club, but he stopped the clock and delivered four victories.

Roger ousted Adrian Mannarino, Richard Gasquet, Cameron Norrie and Lorenzo Sonego, becoming the oldest quarter-finalist in the Open era! Federer chased the semi-final spot against Hubert Hurkacz and suffered his worst Wimbledon loss after having nothing left in the tank! The Pole beat the Swiss 6-3, 7-6, 6-0 in Federer’s first bagel at Majors since the 2008 Roland Garros final. Roger underwent the third surgery a few weeks later, and the results were not there. The Swiss struggled to train injury-free and decided to retire at the Laver Cup a year later. A 20-time Major winner gathered his most formidable rivals and presented a three-day show in London, one of the most emotional in tennis history. Federer played his last match alongside Rafael Nadal, wasting a match point and falling to Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe in a thriller.
