The Broncos need to make some 90-man roster cuts and have started doing so by parting ways with Ben DiNucci.

According to ESPN’s NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the Denver Broncos have released quarterback Ben DiNucci.

DiNucci was signed last year at this time after he took part in the Broncos rookie minicamp. He stuck with the team throughout the year and served as their third quarterback behind Russell Wilson and Jarrett Stidham. However, after the team drafted Bo Nix with the 12th overall pick in the 2024 overall draft and traded for former second overall pick Zach Wilson, DiNucci was put on the hot seat. With the team needing to make room on their 90-man roster to sign their draft picks, undrafted free agents, and potentially a few try out players from this years rookie minicamp, DiNucci’s time with the Broncos came to an end.

Now the Broncos have three quarterbacks currently on their roster with tryout quarterback John Matchota trying to make the team this weekend during the rookie minicamp.

It made sense to part ways with DiNucci because he clearly was not in their plans moving forward. They have a rookie first-round pick at quarterback in Bo Nix who needs all the snaps he can get during this offseason program. Then you have Zach Wilson who the Broncos coaching staff needs to see perform along with Jarrett Stidham who are all competing for the starting quarterback job. DiNucci was not going to factor into that and would only eat into the snaps these three quarterbacks need this offseason.

Unless tryout quarterback John Matchota really impresses during the rookie camp, I see the Broncos carrying three quarterbacks on the roster as they head into training camp. Nix and Wilson need their snaps and it does not make sense to keep anyone around to eat into their already limited amount of snaps this offseason.

I expect for transactions to happen in the coming days as the Broncos mold their roster and move towards the start of OTA’s.
