Rainbow Six Siege Flies to New Heights as Popularity Grows

on

Rainbow Six Siege is undergoing a period of growth that’s taking place almost a decade after the game hit the market. Since the Six Invitational broke records in February, the game’s community has massively swollen – and it’s setting new player records on some platforms. On Steam, Rainbow Six Siege’s player count skyrocketed to above 200,000 concurrent players, setting a new all-time high. It now sits in the top seven games being played on the entire platform.

In February, coinciding with the final stages of the Six Invitational, Rainbow Six Siege also set viewership records on Twitch. It shot up to almost half a million concurrent viewers – which is a staggering height for the top-tier esports title. There are no signs of the game’s development slowing down, and Ubisoft is taking great pride in continuing to support the title and welcome new users to the platform in droves.

The Strength of Siege

Recently, it was revealed that Ubisoft has ‘no intention’ to make a follow-up title to Siege. There’s still a lot of fuel left in that tank, which is something I can attest to, having interfaced directly with Ubisoft. Even the pro players are looking brightly to the future of Rainbow Six Siege. There are bright things in store for Rainbow Six Siege, which just underwent a sizeable update that changed the face of the game, in some respects.

It’s one of the most popular shooters on the market, effortlessly challenging the likes of Call of Duty. In terms of popularity as an esports title, Rainbow Six outpaces Call of Duty by a considerable distance. There’s no doubt that Rainbow Six Siege is a hugely successful live service title – it helped to spearhead the growth of that operating model, after all.

From an onboarding system that actively welcomes new players to an intense Ranked Play mode, there’s plenty wrapped up in the neat package that is Rainbow Six Siege. It’s currently on sale on most platforms, too – and it will be until March 21. So, there are a few days left to snag this top-tier shooter at a discounted rate, which isn’t a bad idea all around.
