The Eagles picked Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell at No. 22, and the CB spoke about his college journey and now getting to learn from Darius Slay.

The Eagles picked CB Quinyon Mitchell out of Toledo with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and from the main event in Detroit, the incoming rookie jumped on a call with reporters.

Mitchell admitted it was a lot to see all the offensive players come off the board before him, but ultimately he feels like the Eagles are a good fit.

“Right now, I’m with the right fit, I’m with the right organization, we’re with the right players, the right city, so I mean, I feel good about this draft pick right here.”

He was asked about the CB position group falling further in the first round than anticipated, but Mitchell feels like everything happens for a reason and he’s with the right fit.

“I feel good. I’m excited, and I’m ready to get to work.”

Some of Mitchell’s coaches at Toledo have a history and connection with head coach Nick Sirianni, and while one of them is his best friend, the CB said that he didn’t really hear too much about Sirianni. He knew they were close coming from the Mount Union tree, but they didn’t talk about how Sirianni would be as a coach.

The cornerback said that he feels like he can contribute right away, and can be plugged in different positions.

“I feel like I can come in and play inside, outside. I got some vets in front of me I can really learn from, really soak the game up from Darius Slay — that’s somebody who I model my game after —, and James Bradberry. So, it don’t matter where I play, I just want to help the team.”

Mitchell talked about the mentality he has as a cornerback, and he said coming from a small town and coming from a small school, he’s always trying to demand respect — something he thinks he’s done through his college career and pre-draft process.

“I feel like my whole life, I’ve just been trying to demand respect.”

He admitted that coming out of high school he had some grade issues, but Toledo gave him a chance and stood by him, so he was going to stay there for the duration of his college career. Mitchell said that no amount of money, or other offer, was going to lure him away.
