Paris Saint-Germain travels to Rennes for the 19th day of Ligue 1, this Sunday evening (8:45 p.m.). Here is the probable line-up of the capital club.
Two weeks after a frustrating setback at Lens (1-3) – the first of the season in all competitions – Paris Saint-Germain will pass a new test against a declared outsider in this championship. A little over a year ago, the capital club suffered a final defeat on the lawn of Stade Rennais (0-2). Suffice to say that this trip to Brittany is a real challenge for Christophe Galtier and his men, who will have to respond to their opponent in terms of intensity.
Return of the Messi-Neymar-Mbappé trio
If Rennes will be deprived of its vital forces Martin Terrier (injured) or Benjamin Bourigeaud (suspended), Paris Saint-Germain will also have to deal with the absence of several strong links, starting with Marco Verratti, Presnel Kimpembe and Nuno Mendes, all in the infirmary. The good news nevertheless concerns Kylian Mbappé and Achraf Hakimi, both back in competition.
For the first time in 2023, Galtier will be able to field the famous MNM. The three galactics should evolve in an inverted triangle where Neymar would have to recover his role as playmaker behind the Messi-Mbappé tandem.
The surprise could come from the animation. After renewing the 3-4-3 on Wednesday against Angers (2-0), will Galtier keep this formula? It’s the trend. A Vitinha-Fabian Ruiz tandem is expected in the midfield, with Nordi Mukiele and Juan Bernat on the sides, in piston roles. Danilo Pereira would come back down in defense alongside Sergio Ramos and captain Marquinhos. Gianluigi Donnarumma will hold his place in goal.
