The Pokémon GO new season is about to arrive. The previous season, which was called Mythical Wishes, ends in less than 24 hours. In its place will be the Pokémon GO new season: Rising Heroes. This will be the 10th season for the hit mobile game from Niantic and the Pokémon Company.

Pokémon GO New Season: Complete Guide

As with all new seasons, this season will introduce new spawns, new events, a new GO Battle League and so much more. With the new season having just been announced, here’s what you need to know.

How to get Gimmighoul and Gholdengo

Back before Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet was released, Pokémon GO did a promotional crossover with the game. Professor Willow, who does special research for trainers on GO, teamed up with Professor Jacq, the local researcher in the Paldea region, to study Gimmighoul.

The result was that players could collect mysterious coins in Pokémon GO, but it was unclear what was going to happen with them. Now, it is all clear in the new Pokémon GO season. It is the first time something from Generation IX is coming to Pokémon GO.

Pokémon Go now has Gimmighoul and Gholdengo officially. You’ll need a copy of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet or a ton of luck to get em though. If you own both games, you can link them and need to follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Poké Portal in Scarlet and Violet and through the Mystery Gift select “Connect to Pokémon Go” twice.
  2. In Pokemon Go, open the Postcard Book and select “Send to Nintendo Switch.”
  3. Once your Nintendo Switch receives the postcard as a Mystery Gift, use the Coin Bag from your Pokémon Go inventory.
  4. Once active, you catch as many Gimmighoul as you want for 30 minutes
  5. If you collect enough coins, you can eventually evolve into Gholdengo.

Alternatively, you can get Gimmighoul in any golden PokéStops as long as they were turned golden by the Golden Lure Module. The odds are low however.

XXL and XXS Pokémon

XXL and XXS Pokémon, which have a new animation when encountering them, can be found frequently. However, not all Pokémon could be extra, extra large or extra, extra small. Now, they can.

Moving forward, Niantic has stated that all creatures available in the game will be able to spawn as huge, tiny or normal-sized.

Elite Raids return for the new Pokémon GO Season

Elite Raids were first introduced back in October, and debuted the Unbound Form of Hoopa for trainers to catch. This was a new mechanic and a new challenge for trainers to try out. Now, they’re returning with two new Pokémon available: Regieleki and Regidrago!

These Elite Raids last for 24 hours after hatching, but the only way to complete them is in-person. This requires a lot of friends and local players, so it is a challenge for trainers to even have enough battlers to take them down.

New attacks for select Pokemon

Surf, Burs and Breeze are available for the Pokémon:

  • Exploud: Boomburst (Charged Attack) (Normal)
  • Flygon: Boomburst (Charged Attack) (Normal)
  • Kommo-o: Boomburst (Charged Attack) (Normal)
  • Whimsicott: Fairy Wind (Fast Attack) (Fairy)
  • Jellicent: Surf (Charged Attack) (Water)

Community days

Community days are among the biggest events each month for Pokémon go. A season typically lasts 90 days, which means there should be three Comm days available for players during Rising Heroes.

However, Niantic has already confirmed that there will be an extra community day on the schedule. They have not specified which Pokémon will be featured, but the upcoming calendar is set:

  • March 18
  • April 15
  • April 29
  • May 21

These will likely occur from 2-5 pm local time. That has been a common schedule for community days recently.
