It is to a baby girl that Katrina, the wife of Paul Barjon, gave birth a few days ago. A happy event that caused the Frenchman to be withdrawn at the last minute from the list of participants in this week’s Korn Ferry Tour tournament.

Paul Barjon will return this Thursday to the PGA Tour promotion circuit in Huntsville, Alabama, in a tournament he brilliantly won in 2021.

Huntsville is the administrative center of Madison County. According to the 2010 census, the city is inhabited by 180,105 people. The Huntsville metropolitan area has a population of 417,593. Huntsville together with Decatur (among other cities), forms the Combined Statistical Area of the same name inhabited by 683,871 people (2013 data).

Huntsville derives its name from John Hunt, the first settler who settled near Big Spring. Hunt did not claim his property and so the land was bought by Leroy Pope. In 1811 Huntsville became the first incorporated city in Alabama although the founding year remains established as 1805, upon the arrival of John Hunt.

Huntsville’s great growth was enabled by the cotton industry. Many wealthy farmers moved to this area from Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia. In 1819 the 44 delegates gathered in an institutional convention in Huntsville to write the constitution of Alabama.

During World War II, three chemical weapons factories were built in the Huntsville area, boosting population growth in the area.

At the end of the war these unused facilities were combined under the name Redstone Arsenal, which became a site for rocket and missile development. About 1000 people were moved here from Fort Bliss, Texas in 1950 to work in the development center. Among them were some 200 German scientists and engineers, brought to the United States after World War II via Operation Paperclip. During the Korean War, the PGM-11 Redstone missile was developed here.

The climate in southern Alabama is Mediterranean with hot summers and mild, wet winters, while in the north it is continental. In Huntsville, in the north of the country, temperatures several degrees below 0° are possible in winter, the average minimum temperature of the coldest month in January is -2°, snow is quite frequent but when it falls it almost never brings significant accumulations. Summers are hot and humid with temperatures often above 30° from June to the end of August, while autumn and spring are humid and quite rainy, and quite strong hurricanes are formed as in the rest of the southern states, due to the contrast of cold air from Canada and warm air from the nearby Gulf of Mexico.
