Douglas was New England’s most productive wide receiver in 2023.

Despite being a sixth-round draft selection, DeMario Douglas became the most productive rookie wide receiver in the Bill Belichick era last season. The rookie posted 49 receptions and 561 receiving yards in his rookie year with the New England Patriots.

Regardless of the achievement, he knows there is more to prove.

“It’s a blessing,” Douglas said Tuesday about his production. “But, I feel like I still haven’t done anything, honestly.”

Entering Year 2, Douglas has attacked his first NFL offseason in order to help turn things around record wise, and has one specific individual goal to achieve on the field.

“I feel like I can always improve in every aspect. But get a touchdown this year,” Douglas, who was held out of the end zone last season, told reporters. “Well, more than one. Touchdowns this year.”

In addition to finding pay dirt, Douglas hopes to add more swagger to New England’s on-field performance as well.

“Last year, that was my first year. That was my welcome to the league type of year,” he said. “This year, come in play with confidence, faith, come play with that swagger. Bring that energy to the team — like [Kendrick Bourne], you know how he bring that energy — bring that energy also to the team and we go out there and play with some swag this year.”

New England will hope Douglas can achieve his goals, as the shifty receiver projects to again play a key role in their new-look offense. He could also be a strong fit with new quarterback Drake Maye, who showcased a strong connection with own his slot receiver, Josh Downs, during his time at North Carolina.

Once Maye was selected, Douglas tracked down his phone number to welcome him to Foxboro. The receiver was then happy to see his new QB quickly get back to him with a simple message.

“Let’s work, Pop,” Douglas relayed.
