New England has made its seventh overall selection in this year’s draft, and its second addressing the quarterback position.

The New England Patriots have made their seventh selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, and for a second time went back to the quarterback position. With the 193rd overall pick in the sixth round, they acquired Joe Milton out of Tennessee.

Milton, 24, spent his six-year college career at Michigan and Tennessee. He did see action in 43 games along the way, but started only 21 of them. In total, he went 400-of-650 (61.5%) for 5,353 yards with 37 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also scored 12 rushing touchdowns.

One of the most physically gifted throwers in this year’s class, the 6-foot-5, 246 pounds looks the part of an NFL quarterback. That said, he is a developmental prospect due to his college play and physical attributes not matching up. Milton is a low risk/high reward project whose returns, if any, will only come in a few years.

With him in the mix, the Patriots now have five quarterbacks under contract. Fellow rookie Drake Maye, who was selected third overall in the first round, as well as veterans Jacoby Brissett, Bailey Zappe, and Nathan Rourke.

Milton now also joins a Maye-led Patriots draft class that also features wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk and offensive tackle Caedan Wallace, who were selected in the second and third rounds, respectively. Guard Layden Robinson and wide receiver Javon Baker were added in Round 4, with cornerback Marcellas Dial joining the group earlier in Round 6.

New England has one pick left in the draft, and is scheduled to be back on the clock at No. 231 in the seventh round.
