With a deep roster, the Detroit Lions are going to have some intriguing battles for roster spots this offseason.

The Detroit Lions’ roster is mostly set as we approach offseason activities and training camp. Of course there will be some late free agency additions and subtractions, but with the conclusion of the NFL Draft, we have a pretty good idea of what the team is going to look like to start the regular season.

General manager Brad Holmes used the draft to fill the team’s most significant need at cornerback by doubling down at the position in the first two rounds. He then used the rest of his assets to get aggressive and take a shot on some high ceiling players as well as adding some extra depth in the trenches. This team is as deep as it’s ever been on paper, and there will be a ton of interesting camp battles to keep an eye on this year.

Today’s Question of the Day is…

What position battle are you most interested in this year?

This year’s roster is very deep compared to previous years, so I think there are a lot of intriguing battles and spots up for grabs this year. The one I’m most interested in hearing about is going to be the reserve offensive linemen.

We already know who the Lions’ starters are on the OL, with Taylor Decker, Graham Glasgow, Frank Ragnow, Kevin Zeitler, and Penei Sewell locking those spots down. But who will be their top reserve guard or center? How about their backup swing tackle? Is that still Dan Skipper’s job to lose, or will it be someone new? Will Colby Sorsdal show improvement in Year 2?

I’m also just really interested in seeing how the rookie linemen perform in training camp. Fourth-round pick Giovanni Manu is a raw guard/tackle prospect who will likely have his ups and downs, but with his athleticism and size, I’m interested to see if the Lions have any plans for him as a sixth OL in certain packages. And while sixth-round pick Christian Mahogany comes with injury concerns, it certainly seems like he has the talent to challenge early for the Lions’ top reserve IOL spot.

Let’s hear from you. What positional battles are you most excited for this year? Drop your answers in the comments below.
