At the start of the season, OM had experienced a small slump. Some explained it technically, but these episodes mainly coincide with the sequence between Ligue 1 and the Champions League. Even if Jonathan Clauss had denied it in an interview he gave us, playing every three days at the pace that Igor Tudor imposes was almost impossible.
Since the C1 ended and especially since the championship resumed after the training camp in Marbella in December, the Marseillais have been walking on water and they have only known one defeat, at the Orange Vélodrome, against the ‘OGC Nice. After having released PSG in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France, they therefore dream of lifting this trophy which they have not had the chance to approach since 1989.
The highly anticipated Classico
But that’s not all. With their good form, combined with the poor form of Paris SG, the Olympians are now five points behind the leader, who will host Lille this Sunday and could therefore potentially be two points behind their rivals next weekend. This is good since OM and PSG will meet at that time for a Classic which could see the Phocaeans pass in front of the Parisians and therefore occupy first place in the Talent League.
But the timing is not going to be obvious. This Sunday evening, the Marseillais move to Toulouse, the best attack in Europe and which remains on eight victories, a draw and a defeat in Paris in ten games. But hope is in order since the eleventh meeting of this series is the defeat at the Vélodrome (1-6).
Then, the Marseillais will therefore welcome the Parisians for a shock at the top before receiving Annecy in the quarter of the Coupe de France, the club’s real objective. Four days later, OM will go to Rennes before welcoming a Strasbourg which is trying to maintain itself and going to Reims, which is doing well against the big players. A good month, after which we should see a little more clearly about Marseille’s ambitions and possibilities…
