Nick Kyrgios shuts down Pedro Cachin slander amid Rafael Nadal’s classy gesture

Nick Kyrgios came to Pedro Cachin’s defense after Cachin was called out for asking for Rafael Nadal’s shirt as the Australian tennis star says there is zero reason to be saying anything negative about the Argentinian’s act.

Cachin, a 29-year-old Argentinian player ranked at No. 91 in the world, played the biggest match of his career on Monday when he took on his idol Nadal at Manolo Santana Stadium.

Playing against his idol in front of a sold-out crowd that was heavily on Nadal’s side, Cachin didn’t embarrass himself as he even took a set off the Spaniard before the former world No. 1 completed a 6-1 6-7 (5) 6-3 win.

After losing a marathon that lasted just over three hours, Cachin stopped Nadal at the net and asked him for a towel or his shirt – the Spaniard granted that wish.

“Sorry Pedro, asking for your opponent’s shirt at the net ain’t it,” tennis commentator David Law wrote on X.

Kyrgios defends Cachin: ‘You wouldn’t understand’

Reacting to the post, many came to Cachin’s defense and even praised the Argentinian for his humbleness in asking Nadal for a gift.

2022 Wimbledon finalist Kyrgios also agreed that Cachin did nothing wrong.

“Why? NBA players, soccer players do it all the time? It’s a memory, an experience that took a life time of work and that less than 1% of humans get to. You wouldn’t understand,” Kyrgios said in his response to the Law post.

After the match ended and Cachin’s moment with Nadal went viral, the 29-year-old took a photo of Nadal’s gifted shirt and posted it on his Instagram Story so everybody could see it. In the process, Cachin also had a message for Nadal, where he expressed his gratitude.

“Thank You Rafael Nadal. It was a dream, this is so nice,” Cachin captioned his Instagram Story.
