Nick Kyrgios gives clear timetable on his long-awaited tennis return

on

Nick Kyrgios has issued a highly encouraging comeback update as the 2022 Wimbledon finalist has indicated he could be back in action in a month if everything goes as planned in the next few weeks.

In early December – way before the 2024 season started – Kyrgios confirmed he would not play at the Australian Open due to his wrist injury. When the Australian Open started, Kyrgios was present at Melbourne Park since he was working for ESPN and Tennis Channel as a commentator and that’s when he revealed that he may not be back until the grass season or the North American hard court swing.

But during his latest Q&A session on Instagram, Kyrgios hinted that his long-awaited comeback may happen before than initially expected.

“When you will be back?” read one of the questions that Kyrgios received.

Answering the question, Kyrgios provided an answer his fans were hoping for: “I’ll be hopefully back on court in a month if all goes well.”

Why Kyrgios has played only one tournament since the start of 2023?

During the 2022 offseason, Kyrgios contracted a serious knee injury that prevented the Australian from competing at the 2023 Australian Open and required a surgical intervention.

After being out for the opening five months of the 2023 season, Kyrgios started his comeback in the first week of the grass season in Stuttgart. There, Kyrgios lost to Wu Yibing in his opener, in a match in which he was clearly gesturing and indicating that he was in pain and discomfort.

After Stuttgart, Kyrgios ended up missing all of his remaining scheduled grass tournaments and, after he also didn’t recover in time for the US Open, the Australian tennis star decided to put the curtain on his 2023 season.

If Kyrgios returns to tennis next month, he will be playing for the first time in 10 months.
