Super WildCard Weekend continues

Super Wildcard weekend continues into Sunday with two NFC matchups.

The 9-8 seven-seeded Green Bay Packers travel to Dallas to play the number two seeded 12-5 Dallas Cowboys. Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy won Super Bowl XLV for the Packers. McCarthy lost to the Packers last season – 31-28 – against Aaron Rodgers. Now, with Rodgers in New York, Jordon Love will play a vaunted Dallas defense.

The Cowboys and Packers have a lot of recent history that stings the Dallas faithful. In 2016, Rodgers converted a third-and-twenty 36-yard pass to tight end Jared Cook to set up current New York Giants’ kicker Mason Crosby for a 51-yard field goal that led to a 34-31 demise of Dallas.

Rewind two years before that game in 2014, where the infamous “Dez caught it” game happened, which led to a 26-21 victory for Green Bay. Mike McCarthy was on the winning side of both those playoff matchups but now finds himself on the opposite sideline – will the Cowboys find a way to take care of business as seven-point favorites?

The 10-7 sixth-seeded Los Angeles Rams travel to Detroit to play the 12-5 third-seeded Lions. This is another matchup of familiar faces as Rams’ quarterback Matt Stafford returns to the team that selected him first overall in 2009. Stafford played 11 years for the Lions and has since won a Super Bowl with the Rams.

Jared Goff will also see his former team. Goff was involved in the Rams’ acquisition of Matt Stafford when Sean McVay sent Goff and three picks to the Lions. Goff has helped revitalize Detroit and has found success in the Motor City.
