Money and madness: what you need to know about Nadal vs Alcaraz exhibition

on

The crazy initiative proposed to fans on the occasion of El Slam de Netflix is simply out of mind! the exhibition match between the two Spanish champions Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz scheduled for March 3 at the Michelob ULTRA Arena of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, will be broadcast live streaming exclusively on the Netflix platform. But it’s not just that.

Do you dream of training with Rafa Nadal or Carlitos? Now you can do it, as long as you have enough money to do it!

In fact, other initiatives have been planned for the event to entertain the public. If the prices to watch the match exceed 500 dollars, those for the private lesson reach absolutely exorbitant figures.

The request for a few hours with the two Spanish tennis players is 150 thousand dollars, which drops to 25 thousand dollars to train with Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe and 2 thousand to be followed by John Isner and Sam Querrey.

If the prices seem crazy and unaffordable, you will be surprised to discover that those to meet Nadal and Alcaraz have already sold out! This is yet another marketing move for this sport, which with the advent of Saudi Arabia in the world of tennis has seen the number of exhibition events that cover the participants in gold grow exponentially, above all the Six Kings Slam format scheduled for the end of the year.

What worries those who have already spent their money to watch the show between the two Spanish tennis players are their far from optimal physical conditions.

Nadal returned to Brisbane at the beginning of the year, but after the third match he was again forced to stop and give up the Australian Open due to a muscle micro-tear. Carlitos, however, did not shine in her start to the season, and in her last match in Rio De Janeiro, a tournament in which she was defending the final she won last year, she was forced to withdraw against the host Monteiro due to a bad ankle sprain.

The conditions of Nadal and Alcaraz

Nadal still needs time before returning to competition (officially he will play at the ATP Masters 1000 in Indian Wells), after the physical problems suffered at the beginning of the season in Brisbane. There is clearly no shortage of rumors about his future and his possible retirement, which could happen as early as this season, if the Spaniard deems it appropriate.

Although the latest period his nephew has gone through does not bode well, Toni Nadal does not lose his optimism and allows himself to make a prediction, which appears more like a hope.

“I still think he will participate in the tournament and be champion,” he said on the sidelines of a speech at Alfonso X el Sabio University.

Felix Auger Aliassime’s coach then focused on another great goal, which the 22-time slam champion holds in high regard, this season, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games: “It is always a very special event. I remember that Rafa once told me that the best experience of his life was Beijing 2008, because of the atmosphere we felt with the other athletes. I hope he can win another medal this year,” he told

Regarding the much-discussed topic, i.e. that of retirement, the person concerned talked about it a few days ago: “My dream is to play in acceptable conditions on clay and my decision is aimed at this. I hope to play in Madrid although obviously I will play as much as I can and following my reality. I don’t want to lose sight of the Roland Garros, I will take the risks possible to be in Paris in the best condition.

Win it? Today it’s complicated to think about winning, but I want to get there trying to have fun and I’m excited to have this chance. Of course, if I thought I had no chance of winning the Roland Garros, I think I would do other things. Retirement? I’ll go day by day and can’t confirm anything 100% yet. I will say before the Roland Garros whether this will be my last season or not, I’ll give myself a few more months to reflect.”

Carlos Alcaraz updated the fans on the injury he suffered during his debut match at the ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro, forcing him to immediately raise the white flag.

“I just had an ankle MRI following what happened on the pitch on Tuesday. After meeting with my doctor Juanjo Lopeze and my physiotherapists Juanjo Moreno and Sergio Hernandez, the diagnosis is a second degree lateral sprain. I have a sprain that will keep me out for a few days,” he announced, making it official that the physical problem is nothing serious.

The Spaniard thus communicated his next commitments on the calendar, which will not change: “See you in Las Vegas and Indian Wells,” he assured.

The 20-year-old from Murcia will rest and recover the energy necessary for the highly anticipated event scheduled for Sunday 3 March, in which he will challenge his compatriot friend Rafael Nadal in a match entitled El Slam de Netflix. This is an exhibition that will be staged at the MMG Resorts International in Las Vegas.

Then it will be the turn of the Master 1000 in Indian Wells, in which he will be called upon to defend the title and it will not be an easy task: his rivals are decidedly fierce, number one Novak Djokovic, the winner of the Australian Open Jannik Sinner and the Russian Daniil Medvedev.
