Matt Fitpatrick: “Ryder Cup, I just wanna win”

on

The year of the Ryder Cup has arrived.

The countdown has long since started, but the time for important decisions is approaching.

Next February, the court will rule on the appeal filed by three LIV Golf players (Adrian Otaegui, Justin Harding and Ian James Poulter) against the DP World Tour, and it will be the turning point for the Tour in primis, but also , and above all, for Team Europe.

Luke Donald will know which players to follow with his assistants to orient himself on the 6 picks available to him.

Obviously, the Captain is well aware that there are two currents of thought among European players regarding the question of the possible presence at Marco Simone Golf & Country of those who have chosen to play in the League led by Greg Norman.

Rory McIlroy, as we know, represents the leader of the wing opposing the call.

Jon Rahm, on the other hand, is openly in favor of their presence.

But the novelty is that the Spaniard now has another important player on his side.

Matt Fitpatrick, statements

Matt Fitpatrick, interviewed by SkySports, declared that he would support the participation of LIV Golf players in the formation of the team that will take the field to bring the Cup home, because he wants Team Europe to be as strong as possible.

“I definitely think there are a number of personal relationships that have been marked by all of this”

“I’m not worried. I just want to win, and I’m sure these guys want the same thing too.”

Fitzpatrick thinks especially of Sergio Garcia.

“I’d be happy to share a room with him, just in case.”

In the two editions of Ryder in which the Englishman took part (2016 and 2021), Sergio Garcia was his teammate.

Fitz-thinking about his colleagues who have chosen the LIV is clear.

“If you choose to leave and not come back, I have no problem”

“Go and get your money, go and play wherever you like, but then don’t try to come back and take seats in tournaments for the guys who want to play on the Tour”

“I am well aware of the fact that people like Westy, Poulter and Sergio have played a lot in Europe and have done their part”

“I have no intention of questioning them, what they did for the European Tour is much more than what I did”.
