Lorenzo Musetti explains Instagram move: Not healthy to receive threats after losses

on

Lorenzo Musetti decided to limit comments on his Instagram as he thinks it is not healthy for a tennis player to be exposed to insults and harassment after defeats.

Musetti, who had a first-round bye in Indian Wells as a seeded player, exited the tournament after suffering a 6-4 6-4 defeat to Adrian Mannarino in the second round.

For Musetti, it was his fourth consecutive defeat.

Musetti has been struggling a lot with his game in recent weeks and seemingly he was receiving insults on social media for his poor play.

Because of that, Musetti decided to limit comments on his Instagram – only people he follows can now comment on his posts.

Musetti: It’s not correct to receive so many insults and threats

“Hi everyone! Just wanted to clarify about the comments story above my posts here on IG and why I did that! I think is not healthy and correct to receive after a loss so many free insults and threats over families or person you really love. We are professional tennis players, we love tennis and we live for that! But we are also people who have feelings and we have ups and downs like everyone has and we work every day to get better and to do better! I m sure the real tennis fans can understand my decision for the moment about the comments And thank again for all the wonderful messages of encouragement Happy tennis to everyone,” Musetti said in a message posted on his Twitter.

Musetti started his 2023 season with four consecutive wins at the United Cup.

However, it should be noted that Musetti didn’t play any top-100 players in those four matches.

Since then, Musetti has won just one and lost six matches.

Musetti’s play over the last month has been very poor as the Mannarino loss was his fourth consecutive straight-set defeat.

It remains to be seen if Musetti can bounce back at the Miami Masters.
