Kalvin Phillips

Liverpool are already preparing for next season and are looking to strengthen their squad after a season far from their goals. Coach Jürgen Klopp would particularly like to obtain reinforcements for his midfielder, which he considers deficient.

According to information from Daily Star, the Reds have reportedly set their sights on Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips. Transferred for 49 million euros last summer, the player is struggling to establish himself in the Citizens squad.

Coach Pep Guardiola recently commented on the player’s situation, citing a lack of pace and playing time. The 27-year-old has only played 406 minutes in 16 games since last summer, not enough to justify the cost of the operation.

A cheaper solution

According to the outlet, Liverpool are closely monitoring Phillips’ situation and would be interested in his arrival to strengthen their midfield. The future of certain players like Naby Keïta, James Milner or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is uncertain and the leaders are considering a total overhaul of the midfield.

The transfer of Kalvin Phillips to Anfield is estimated at around 40 million euros, a substantial sum but much lower than that necessary to recruit players like Jude Bellingham (Dortmund), Alexis Mac Allister (Brighton) or Moises Caicedo (Brighton).

Phillips, who is struggling to find his place in the Manchester City team, would be open to the idea of a change of club. The Leeds native previously played at Leeds United. Since the start of his career, the player has taken part in 165 Championship matches (English D2) and 56 in the Premier League.

Liverpool currently occupy 7th position in the Premier League standings, 9 points behind 4th place held by Manchester United. The Reds are unlikely to take part in the Champions League next season.
