LEC 2023 Winter Groups Schedule

The LEC is bringing a new format for the 2023 season, with the introduction of an additional split and the groups stage. In the new format, the top eight teams from the winter split will advance to stage 2, with two groups of four teams playing in a double-elimination group stage.

The group winners and runners-up from stage 2 will then go to the LEC Winter playoffs which features a Bo5 double-elimination bracket.

The Winter Groups will have the following schedule:

  • Week 1: Saturday, February 11, 2023 – Monday, February 13, 2023
  • Week 2: Saturday, February 18, 2023 – Sunday, February 19, 2023

LEC Winter 2023 – 8 teams participating in groups

The eight teams that qualified for the LEC Winter Groups are (ordered by seeding):

  • Team Vitality
  • MAD Lions
  • SK Gaming
  • G2 Esports
  • Team BDS
  • Team Heretics
  • KOI
  • Astralis

Based on the winter split, there is a clear division between the top four-five and the bottom three. That said, teams like KOI and Team Heretics have shown improvements in week 3, which can potentially project them to better results in stage 2.

The top half, however, isn’t as clear as it seems: all teams have the potential to beat one another and the Bo3 format only adds more uncertainty. SK, G2, VIT, and MAD have all shown great promise but also some ups and downs so far.

The Round 1 matches are as follows:

  • VIT vs TH – Saturday, Feb. 11, 18 CET
  • SK vs KOI – Saturday, Feb. 11, 21 CET
  • MAD vs AST – Sunday, Feb. 12, 18 CET
  • G2 vs BDS – Sunday, Feb. 12, 21 CET

Where to watch the groups stage

Bo3 is a great addition for players but, most importantly, for the viewers. Fans will have more chances of seeing competitive teams fight it out in longer series, creating more chances of making comebacks and reverse sweeps.
