WWE is in the process of re-signing the big names whose contracts are expiring this year, and now we have confirmation of a star who could hit the market in 2025.

In an interview conducted shortly before last weekend’s Backlash France premium live event, Kevin Owens told Metro UK his current deal is up early next year:

“I really don’t take anything for granted, I’ve nine months left on my contact, and I don’t know what can happen from here on out.”

The Grand Slam champion’s approach to things seems to be driven more by recent reminders about life’s fragility than an interest in leaving WWE, specifically the deaths of friends and colleagues like Bray Wyatt, Brodie Lee & Jay Briscoe over the past few years.

“That’s just life. If I’ve learned anything over the last few years, it’s that nothing is guaranteed. I’ve learned that through some very unfortunate events, we’ve lost so many good people that was never expected.”

As far as what’s next in his career? KO has a hard time imagining himself anywhere other than the place he’s been for more than a decade:

“This has been my home for 10 years and it’s beyond the locker room. There’s some very, very, very special people that work behind the scenes that I’ve become very close with, and I really can’t imagine not seeing them as part of my life.”

He specifically mentions Finn Bálor (who just recently re-upped with WWE) and Sami Zayn (who re-signed shortly after Owens did in 2021-2022, and figures to be coming to the end of his current deal sometime next year too) as friends he’d miss working with even though he currently doesn’t see or talk to them all the time.

Because of his friendship with people like Adam Cole and The Young Bucks at AEW, last time around there was speculation Owens could jump ship before he decided to ink a new deal with WWE. It doesn’t seem like he’s giving that a lot of thought at this point, but he may be thinking about other aspects of his next contract. Just last summer, the 39 year old was musing about how he’ll continue his career in the wrestling business after the in-ring portion is over.

We’ll have to stay tuned and see what Kevin — and most likely WWE — decide.
