Chelsea are not the only club to have thwarted PSG’s plans on the final day of the transfer window.
Definitely, the big European clubs do not want the good of PSG. While Chelsea did everything to delay the transfer of Hakim Ziyech to the French champions, another continental giant knowingly opposed the departure of one of its players so that Paris could not strengthen itself.
Bayern did not want PSG to strengthen
This club is Bayern Munich. According to Spanish media Relevo, the Bavarian club did not want to sell Benjamin Pavard to Inter on the final day of the transfer window for a very specific reason. Not that he absolutely wanted to keep his French international, but that he wanted to prevent the Lombard club from releasing Milan Skriniar in favor of Paris. If they had found the Slovak’s replacement, the Nerazzurri would have agreed to make a deal with the French club.
As the two clubs prepare to face each other in the knockout stages of the Champions League, Bayern has therefore ensured that Paris does not manage to strengthen itself in the sector where it is currently diminished. Everyone will judge the suitability of this method, but the fact remains that the plan worked. The French champions could approach their European clash with only one valid central defender, in this case Marquinhos. Presnel Kimpembe and Sergio Ramos are currently injured. Potential defections to which is also added that of Kylian Mbappé in attack.
In addition to PSG, Pavard also has reason to be disappointed by this episode. The 2018 world champion still wants to leave, although a contract extension could be submitted to him soon. FC Barcelona remains interested in his services.
