Spanish golfer Jon Rahm completed an excellent final day at the LIV circuit tournament, held in the Australian city of Adelaide, leaving him on the verge of the title, claimed by American Brendan Steele.
Rahm, with 136, started his round six shots behind the leader and eventual winner. Nevertheless, he worked hard to try to narrow the gap and ended the day with eight shots under par after starting with a birdie on the third hole and signing five more, along with an eagle on the seventh.

That allowed him to tie for third place with Chilean Joaquín Niemann, American Andy Ogletree, and South Africans Dean Burmester and Charl Schwartzel. The latter, also with -8, was the best on the final day alongside Rahm, Mexican Abraham Ancer, and German Martin Kaymer.
Second, ahead of all of them, was also South African Louis Oosthuizen after completing a journey with seven birdies that left him just one shot behind Steele. The eventual winner had his worst of the three performances with six birdies, five of them in a row between the fifth and ninth holes, and two bogeys. However, his four-under-par allowed him to stay at 198 strokes and remain at the top.
As for the rest of the Spanish participants, Sergio García (-6) and Eugenio Chacarra (-5) climbed positions to finish with 210 and 211 strokes respectively. In between them was David Puig, with the same score as the former after a three-under-par to finish. In the team competition, victory went to the Ripper GC of Australians Matt Jones, Marc Leishman, Lucas Herbert, and Cameron Smith; who won in the final tiebreaker against Oosthuizen’s Stinger GC, featuring Schwartzel, Burmester, and fellow countryman Branden Grace.
Rahm had a successful college golf career at Arizona State University, winning 11 titles during that time and topping the World Amateur Golf Ranking for a total of 60 weeks. After graduating, he turned professional in 2016. In his first year on the pro circuit, he quickly proved his talent, reaching as high as second place in the world rankings. Rahm’s notable victories include the Dubai World Championship, the season-ending tournament of the European Tour, in both 2017 and 2019.
In July 2020, Rahm reached the pinnacle of the golf world by claiming the number one spot in the Official World Golf Ranking after winning the Memorial Tournament. He became the 24th player and the second Spaniard, following Severiano Ballesteros, to hold the top spot. Although he briefly lost the position to Justin Thomas, he regained it after the PGA Championships, only to relinquish it again to Dustin Johnson two weeks later. Rahm joined the ranks of Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth as the third player to lead both the amateur and professional world rankings.
At the 2021 Memorial Tournament, Rahm, the defending champion, led by six strokes after three rounds but was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to a positive test for SARS-CoV-2. Four weeks later, upon his return to the tour, Rahm clinched his first Major victory at the 2021 US Open held at the Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California, edging out Louis Oosthuizen by one stroke. Rahm became the first Spaniard to win the US Open and reclaimed the top spot in the world rankings for the third time with this victory, holding it until July 2021.
In April 2023, Rahm secured his second Major title by winning the Masters at Augusta, finishing four strokes ahead of Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka. Despite trailing by four strokes before the final round, Rahm’s triumph propelled him back to the summit of the golf world rankings.
In 2024, Rahm made the transition to the LIV Golf Tour, embarking on a new chapter in his professional career.
