In a remarkable display of skill, English golfer John Parry claimed victory at the Delhi Challenge, organized by the Challenge Tour in collaboration with the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), by mounting a comeback with a round of 65 (-7), finishing with a total of 268 (66 69 68 65, -20) strokes. He narrowly edged out compatriots Chris Paisley and Jack Senior, along with the United Arab Emirates’ Joshua Grenville-Wood, who finished second with 269 (-19).

Played at the Classic Golf & Country Club (par 72) in Gurugram, India, the consistently impressive Aron Zemmer delivered a solid performance, finishing 12th with 274 (68 68 68 70, -14), marking his best result of the season. Further back, Pietro Bovari finished 53rd with 283 (68 72 70 73, -5), in his first year on the circuit.
The 37-year-old Parry, hailing from Harrogate, produced seven birdies without a bogey for the day’s best score, securing his second title on the Challenge Tour (the other back in 2009) in a modest career that includes a third victory on the DP World Tour in 2010 (Vivendi Cup). For his feat, he was rewarded with a prize of €44,119 out of a total purse of approximately €275,000 (officially $300,000).
In fifth place with 270 (-18) were Frenchmen Oihan Guillamoundeguy and Martin Couvra, who shared the lead after the third round with Senior and Grenville-Wood, having also been at the top in the first round with Steven Brown (who finished 30th with 277, -11) and solely in the second. Tied for seventh with 271 (-17) were Welshman Oliver Farr and Frenchman Alexander Levy, who has had better times on the main tour (with five victories) but has been declining in recent seasons.
Zemmer carded a 70 (-2) with four birdies and two bogeys, while Bovari finished with a 73 (+1) including two birdies and three bogeys. Gregorio De Leo (69 74) and Luca Cianchetti (73 70) missed the cut, finishing 96th with 143 (-1).
Next week marks the second and final event in India on the 2024 calendar, with the Kolkata Challenge at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club in Kolkata (March 21-24), featuring the same Italian quartet. Then, there will be back-to-back tournaments in Abu Dhabi (Abu Dhabi Challenge, April 18-21, and UAE Challenge, April 25-28), followed by events in Europe, starting with the Challenge de España in Seville (May 9-12).
