Jeremiah Trotter Jr. doesn’t feel any extra pressure to live up to his dad’s Eagles legacy

The incoming rookie admitted he’ll ask the Eagles to wear No. 54, like his dad.

The Eagles waited until pick No. 155 but they eventually got their guy, drafting legacy LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr. out of Clemson. He spoke to reporters shortly after getting the call, and is excited and grateful for the opportunity.

Trotter said it feels great to be drafted by the Eagles, and talked about this all coming to fruition given his father’s legacy in Philly.

“It definitely means a lot to be able to play, you know, come in and continue that legacy, and just try to help out the team anyway I possibly can.

I’m a hometown kid and Eagles were always my favorite team growing up, so it’s definitely great to be able to play for them and just have the opportunity that I have.”

He wasn’t worried about not going earlier, and he just stayed faithful that things would work out, and they did. Trotter said that he’s just excited to get to work, and do whatever the coaches ask him to do to help the team.

Howie Roseman’s comments ahead of the draft were brought up, explaining that one benefit to bringing in local guys is that they know what the fans and city expect.

“I’m from the area, I know that they’ll love you up, but also get on you when you need to hear it. But, I feel like that’s just what comes with the job title.”

Trotter said that would be the case anywhere you play, but he just has to do the best job that he can do and control what he can control.

He talked about the difference in his game compared to his dad, despite playing the same position, and the younger Trotter cited their size and body types along with how the position is played today. Trotter Sr. would more run the gap and run downhill through the OL, versus Trotter Jr. in today’s game runs more sideline to sideline and has to be able to play out in space.

The incoming rookie said that he’s never felt any pressure being Trotter Sr.’s son, and his dad made sure he knew that and knew that he was his own man and on his own journey. Trotter Jr. doesn’t feel like there’s a weight on his back, or any extra pressure, he’s just trying to be the best he can be.

The younger Trotter confirmed, however, he will ask to wear jersey No. 54, just like his dad did — the number is currently available.
