Jelena Dokic makes horrifying revelations about treatment from abusive father

on

Jelena Dokic has revealed more details on a relationship with her abusive father, claiming that she was “silenced” her whole life.

Dokic, who was born in ex-Yugoslavia to a Serbian father and a Croatian mother, was one of the biggest talents of her generation. While Dokic was able to make some really notable results at a very young age, her career and life soon went downhill because of her father Damir Dokic, who was working as her coach.

Dokic’s father, who was described as an abusive and domineering father, sought perfection from Jelena in every way possible. While Dokic was giving her best on the court, it was never enough for her father.

“I was silenced for my whole life. From the very first day that I started playing tennis, the No. 1 rule was ‘Never tell anyone anything, or there will be massive, massive consequences,” Dokic told The Age.

Dokic: My father beat me, left me unconscious even after some of my wins

At just 17, Dokic made the semifinal at Wimbledon in 2000. That year, Dokic’s run at The All England Club ended with a 6-4 6-2 defeat to former world No. 1 Lindsay Davenport.

But instead of celebrating Jelena’s big Wimbledon result at a young age, Damir Dokic was furious at his daughter for failing to beat Davenport. After the loss, Damir Dokic refused to let his daughter back into their hotel room as she was forced to sleep in the player’s lounge before being found by cleaners at 2 am.

Now, Dokic claims there were even times when her father would beat her and leave her unconscious despite winning a match that day.

“Even if I won, I would still at times be beaten and abused. I had some very difficult moments where I was beaten and kicked and punched to the point of being unconscious,” Dokic claimed.

Dokic, now 40, hasn’t spoken to her father in a really long time and she is now in a completely different situation. Over the last couple of years, Dokic has been working in tennis broadcasting and she also now serves as a motivational speaker who is trying to help others who may be experiencing similar things she once went through.
