Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner is one of the great protagonists of 2024. The Italian champion from San Candido – number two in the Atp Ranking – made a great start to the season with 28 wins and just two defeats. The first defeat against Carlos Alcaraz at the tournament in Indian Wells and then the much-discussed defeat in the semi-final against Tsitsipas at the Masters 1000 in Monte-Carlo.
Sinner has been protagonist to a winning streak in recent months, achieving many records. The Italian tennis player also put up a good run at the Masters 1000 in Madrid, but he retired due to a hip problem and Sinner eliminated in the Quarter-finals of the Spanish tournament. This is bad news for Sinner’s fans, considering that the next tournaments – starting with Rome and Roland Garros – will be viewed with concern. Jannik also missed the opportunity to set a major record, a record only achieved in history by Swiss champion Roger Federer.
The Swiss champion is the only tennis player in history to have reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open and at the first four Masters 1000 tournaments of the season. Jannik Sinner could have done the same result, but had to retire in Madrid. Federer achieved this result in 2006, a run that brought him in the history of the sport. Federer won the Australian Open and the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and Miami, but he lost in the finals of the tournaments in Monte-Carlo and Rome. The Swiss player lost the final of the Internazionali d’Italia, missing two match points in the final versus Rafael Nadal.
Roger Federer retired a few years ago, but he remains in the history of tennis and is admired and remembered by very many fans. Federer’s game had great quality and the Swiss champion achieved great success for over twenty years thanks to his incredible talent. Together with Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, the Basel’s player took part in the era of the “Big Three”, the years in which three tennis players wrote the history of this incredible sport.
