Ivanisevic shares an honest analysis on Djokovic’s rivalry with Alcaraz and Sinner

on

Novak Djokovic is going through a complex moment in his professional life. A precarious physical condition was combined with a noticeable decline in motivation.

This translated on the court into tournaments played in precarious psycho-physical conditions which led the Serbian champion to still not have won a title, in 2024. A paradoxical situation, considering that we are in May and that, last season, Nole dominated its rivals unchallenged for almost 12 months.

His former coach Goran Ivanisevic tried to give an explanation of this negative period that the Serbian tennis player is going through, in an interview with Sportal.blic.

“Training is one thing, matches are another. You have to train. I see a lot of people criticizing him for his lack of motivation, but this man has broken all records, won everything he could win and it’s not easy to motivate yourself over and over again. If you don’t train, you can’t expect great things.

He is a genius and adapts easily to matches, and if you tie him hand and foot there are players that he will beat, but against these two, that is Sinner and Alcaraz, it is a little more difficult. Jannik and Carlos are currently five points ahead of everyone else, and I’m not just talking about Novak.

But I repeat for the umpteenth time, everything depends on him, on his motivation, where he plays and how he presents himself on the court,” explained Ivanisevic.

The professional split between Djokovic and Ivanisevic

Exactly one month ago Djokovic separated professionally from Ivanisevic. Their collaboration led the Serbian champion to break all the existing records in tennis (or almost, at least among the most important ones!), taking himself to the top of almost all the rankings.

“It was exciting, a great honor and a great responsibility. Ultimately, I got tired of him and he got tired of me. I felt I couldn’t help him anymore. I will be eternally grateful to Novak, he offered me a unique opportunity and no one will ever be able to take away the results we have achieved,” said Ivanisevic about the end of their professional partnership.
